UTS7000A-EMI EMI Measurement Option
Overview
UTS7000A-EMI is the EMI pre-compliance software-license option for the UTS7000A signal analyzer platform. The license configures the chassis as a CISPR-compliant EMI receiver with quasi-peak, EMI average, positive peak, average, and negative peak detectors, pre-defined CISPR resolution bandwidths, and meter-mode measurement at fixed frequencies.
EMI operates as a dedicated measurement mode on the chassis. Pre-scan plus final-scan workflows let a development team identify probable emissions failures and characterize their spectral content before scheduling certified-chamber time. The license is purchased against the chassis serial number, installed via the chassis Option Install menu, and is permanent for the life of the instrument.
Key Features
- CISPR-compliant detectors — Positive peak, quasi-peak, EMI average, average, and negative peak
- CISPR resolution bandwidths — 200 Hz, 9 kHz, 120 kHz, and 1 MHz (CISPR mode); 1 Hz to 10 MHz (general mode)
- EMI filter — −6 dB filter bandwidth per CISPR convention (versus −3 dB Gaussian for general measurement)
- Three meters with independent detectors — Default assignment: meter 1 positive peak, meter 2 quasi-peak, meter 3 EMI average
- Pre-defined limit lines — Per-meter limit-line on/off, dwell-time configuration, peak-hold logic
- Pre-scan and final-scan workflow — Identify candidate frequencies on the pre-scan, characterize them with the slower quasi-peak detector on the final scan
- Lifetime License Activation — activate once, owned for the life of the instrument. No subscriptions, no renewals, no maintenance fees.
What EMI Measurement Adds
The EMI option configures the instrument as a CISPR-compliant EMI receiver. Specifications are taken from the UTS7000A Series datasheet and the Spectrum Analyzer EMI Function User Manual.
| Specification | Value |
|---|---|
| Measurement standard | CISPR (selectable), or None for general measurement |
| Filter type (CISPR mode) | EMI filter, −6 dB bandwidth |
| Resolution bandwidths (CISPR mode) | 200 Hz, 9 kHz, 120 kHz, 1 MHz |
| Resolution bandwidths (general mode) | 1 Hz to 10 MHz, 10% steps |
| Detectors | Positive peak, quasi-peak, EMI average, average, negative peak |
| Number of meters | 3 (independent detector per meter) |
| Limit-line configuration | Per-meter limit-line on/off, dwell time, peak-hold reset behavior |
| Scan modes | Pre-scan, final scan; single or continuous sweep |
| Operating mode | Dedicated EMI measurement mode on the chassis |
When You Need This Option
The option fits the following measurement workflows:
- Conducted-emissions pre-compliance — CISPR Band A (9 kHz to 150 kHz) and Band B (150 kHz to 30 MHz) measurements with the quasi-peak detector for power-line conducted noise on consumer-electronics and industrial-equipment designs.
- Radiated-emissions pre-compliance — 30 MHz to 1 GHz (and beyond, to the chassis frequency limit) radiated sweeps with CISPR limit lines for product-development bench-side debug before scheduling certified-chamber time.
- Switching-converter emissions characterization — Quasi-peak measurement of power-electronics designs (DC-DC, AC-DC, motor drives) where switching-frequency harmonics drive the conducted-emissions profile.
- Cable and connector shielding evaluation — Meter-mode measurement at fixed frequencies for comparative tests across cable revisions or shielded-enclosure design iterations.
Compatibility
The option installs as a software license on any UTS7000A series chassis. Compatibility:

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the EMI option make the UTS7000A a certified EMI receiver?
The EMI option configures the chassis for CISPR-style pre-compliance measurement using CISPR-defined detectors, resolution bandwidths, and limit-line workflows. Final compliance certification requires a CISPR 16-1 receiver in a certified chamber. The EMI option is used for development-bench identification and characterization of probable failures before chamber time is scheduled.
How is the quasi-peak detector different from the peak detector for compliance work?
Quasi-peak weights the detected signal by its repetition rate, which is the CISPR-defined response for representative human perception of interference. Pre-scan typically uses positive-peak (faster) to identify candidate frequencies; final-scan uses quasi-peak (slower) on the identified frequencies for the compliance-relevant amplitude reading.
How is the license installed?
The license is purchased against the chassis serial number, registered on the UNI-T website to obtain the license file, and installed via the chassis Option Install menu using a USB storage device. Refer to the chassis User Manual for the full step-by-step procedure.
Is the license permanent, or does it require renewal?
The license is permanent — a one-time purchase that remains active for the life of the instrument. There are no subscription fees, no annual renewals, and no expiration date.
Can the option be installed on a UTS7000A–NB narrow-band chassis?
Yes. Measurement function options install on all UTS7000A chassis variants including the narrow-band (–NB) configurations. The option installs and operates independently of the chassis bandwidth configuration.
